Waiting list Confirmation Chances in Rail Ticket.

Many a times ,due to lack of trains and seat quotas in Indian railways one faces the problem of getting a confirmed ticket. All he can do is to hope for getting a confirm Tatkal ticket or get his waiting cleared.

"Will my waiting ticket get confirmed?" is the usual question in mind when one books the ticket 2 months in advance but still finds the ticket in waiting list  due to passenger rush during Summer vacations or festival like Diwali.

One may predict and may not bother about the waiting list as it may usually get confirmed is stipulated time period, but this may always not the case.

To analyse or get concrete idea about your waiting confirmation chances ,we have one Railway governed website called  indiarailinfo.com where you can post your PNR no. and get the history of past waiting tickets and their final status after Chart preparation.
For instances one can put his PNR and search for past history of PNRs of same train and same route for the same period last year and get concrete predictions about his  current ticket status after Chart preparation.

One can also use private website tools in market for guessing the PNR status
.

Which is better: PQWL/RLWL or GNWL

"I wish to carry out my journey next week  from Warangal to Bhopal in 12615 Chennai -NewDelhi Grand Trunk Exp.
For the time being for the date of journey, the reservation status says RLWL33/WL24.Shall I go ahead and book it or try another train??"

This may be usual question while booking a railway ticket for intermediate stations in a long route train.
To tackle such a situation we need to know little about the types of Waiting Quotas in Indian Railways.

GNWL: This is General Waiting List. This means the waiting list from origin station to last station or any intermediate station close to it.These is the quota which first gets cleared and chances for confirmation of ticket are thus higher.

RLWL/PLQL: These are Remote List Waiting List and Pooled Quota Waiting List resp. The chances for confirmation here are minimal as they will be cleared after GNWL are cleared .So its better to book the tickets on extended quota and get GNWL rather than getting it in RLWL/PQWL.

CKWL: It is Tatkal Waiting List. Here chances for confirmation are higher if its upto 10 waiting list i.e CKWL 10 else you may have to travel in waiting. One important point to note here is tatkal waiting candidate is allowed in train if only he possess a window ticket. For tatkal e-ticket one is not permissible to enter train as the amount is refunded back to passengers account after chart prep. if its still in waiting.

Get confirmed rail ticket from different Seat Quota

Quite a times we see the seat quota from a particular source station to a destination station fills is a matter of minutes even though it is a normal reservation 2 months before. This usually happens because of the passenger rush among these two stations.

For instance ,if one boards 12833 Ahmedabad-Howrah express to go from Surat to Nagpur , he may not find any confirmed ticket easily as this may be one of the busiest seat quota for this train.
To deal with such a situation, its better to extend or book the ticket from one of  previous source stations to get confirmed ticket for the portion of journey one intends to take.

For example for the example discussed above, one can book Ahmedabad as Boarding station and Raipur as destination. This way his chances of getting the confirmed ticket increases as this may not fill up as fast as the Surat-Nagpur quota. All one has to incur is the additional fees for the increased distance he has booked for. This usually is a better option than going for Tatkal ticket as your chances in the former are guaranteed as compared to Tatkal where the tickets may vanish in a matter of seconds and you are left with no option.

Procedure for changing the Boarding Station in Railway ticket

Many a times due to some unforseen circumstances passengers needs to change the boarding station of their journey  or need to extend the destination station.Following are the cases which can explain the procedure for doing so.

Case 1: If the ticket is window ticket ,one can mention the boarding station different than the source station in the reservation form while booking the ticket. In case of e-ticket also this can be done at the time of booking through IRCTC user login.

Case2: If however, user has booked the ticket (either windows or e-ticket)and want to change the boarding station after booking is done,he can change it to any intermediate station enroute by submitting an application in written for the change of Boarding station along with the xerox copy of passenger ID.ID is must to avoid any stealing/fraud  journey on the concerned ticket. This must be done 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of the train from the originating staion. No refunds would be done by IRCTC for the portion of journey not carried out by the passenger.

Case3: If the passenger wants to extend his journey to one of the  stations ahead of his booked destination ,he can get it done by onboard TC while in journey. One has to pay additional charges for extending the journey as  obvious and can collect the receipt for the same from TC.One however, may require to take the extended portion of journey in waiting if no vacant seats are available for the extended journey portion.

Hope,i have clarified the scenario a little. For any doubts please post it in comments.I would be happy to help. :)
